Writing Negative Reviews

Guys, sometimes I feel as if I didn't enjoy a book as much as the next guy. And I feel bad when I write a review. I try as much as I can to explain what I did and didn't enjoy. But sometimes EVEN that is hard.

       WHEN I CAN'T EXPLAIN WHAT I DIDN'T ENJOY 

Sometimes the book itself isn't bad; it's just boring. You know what I mean? Or sometimes; what I dislike is personal and I really feel bad about giving it a bad rating. 

Sometimes when I don't enjoy an ARC (advanced reader's copy) I feel even worse about giving it a bad review.

                                              QUESTION TIME

So, what's your opinion of negative review? Should we keep our mouth shut or should we be honest and only honest?

Harry Potter Face Off

Hey guys! Today I'm doing another FRIDAY FACE OFF!!! Today I'm doing it on Harry Potter.

I know there are so many book covers for Harry Potter; but today I'm only doing it on the two most popular ones. Which are these:

                                                                               

OOOOO AAHHH so pretty.  


Anyway this is gonna be hard.

                        THOUGHTS AND RAMBLES

The first cover (we'll call it the oldie) is pretty cool. I love the unicorn in the back. But Harry Potter looks so goofy and nerdy. His glasses look like they're going to fall off and that does not make me feel good. But this cover is one of the original covers (almost everyone has this one) making it really special.

The second cover (we'll call it the newb) is also pretty awesome. It looks a little more modern which is good. But it's very busy. Another thing about this cover is that it doesn't really intrigue someone that hasn't read the book yet. You could easily overlook Harry.

                                      THE WINNER

Honestly, I'm gonna stick with oldie. You can never really go wrong with a classic right?

Do Your Homework!

Having trouble with homework?

A lot of people have a hard time with doing homework, so don’t get mad at yourself for this! I can get into a funk where I don't care about homework for days.

Non Bookish News

Hey guys, I know I've been really bad at posting. For the whole year. Oops. But I've got a plan. You heard me; I've got a plan!

So about a month ago, I decided I wasn't posting enough and I wasn't on top of my game.

So I turned to handy dandy Google.

Books That Are For Lower Levels

   This post is Julia talking about ''lower level'' books. Now let's get started!
        

Here are some examples of lower level books that I've read:

*Super Diaper Bab.

               Explanation/My Meaning

These were fun reads (at least most of them), and by no means they were "boring" because they are "baby" books.

I do not believe in "baby" books. I believe in lower level, or higher level books.

My seven year old brother has a 4th grade reading level.

I have an eighth grade reading level, while a lot of kids in my class have a 5th grade reading level.

By no means am I saying that having a lower reading level is bad. I'm just saying that just because someone is one age, doesn't mean they're at a certain reading level.

                           Conclusion

My conclusion Iis that I will continue to read lower level books.

Why, you ask? Because they're fun! They entertain me!

Though I will not post reviews about lower level books.

I don't know why, but I don't wanna write a review on Barbie!!    

  

Book Blurbs

Book blurbs, admit it. They've increased the chance of you picking up a book. I don't blame you, I've done it numerous times.

Bad Examples:

My dad bought me this book about five years ago, but I never bothered to read it, but recently I was looking through the book, and I noticed Neil Gaiman wrote a blurb. I immediately read it. And let's just say I was highly disappointed.


Recently Youtube star Ariel Bissett bought a book just because her favorite YA author, AS King, blurbed it. And let's just say she was a bit disappointed.

Good Examples:

But book blurbs aren't always misleading. Many people find out about an author through another author. Example:

If I love John Green, and Green blurbs Rainbow Rowell, I'll most likely enjoy Rainbow Rowell.


Final Thoughts:

I don't think you should buy a book only because of the blurb. Blurbs can be misleading sometimes.

Think about it this way, if somebody asked you to blurb a book, would you? If you didn't enjoy it, would you at least try to put together the good parts of the book?

Audiobooks

                               Audiobooks. People either hate them, or love them.

P.S. Be Eleven was great the voice artist did a great job. Seriously I'm Kidding was a funny book in general, I was kind of annoyed by Ellen Degeneres' voice. Which brings me to:


                                               Voice Actors/Actresses
I feel like it's a really big duty to be on an audiobook. You can't express too much; unless someone might not understand you. But, you can't be a robot either, or that's really boring.

I feel like Sishi Johnson did her job well, she was great.

As much as I dislike saying this, I don't think Ellen did very good. Her voice doesn't change or level, and it get's annoying after 20 minutes.

I also felt that Ellen did something things that we didn't really need. She procasinated a lot.


                                            Audiobook Vs Physical Book
I LOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE the audiobook. But I also LOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE physical books. Honestly I think they can not be compared. They are so different!

Celebrities Writing Books

Celebrities writing books*, now that's something we hear a lot. But did you ever think it through?

No I'm not talking about books written about the celebrity. I'm talking about books celebrities wrote themselves.

I honestly love celebrity memoirs, they -most of the time- give me a different perspective about that celebrity. Here are a two extremely popular ones:

                                                   

                                                         

There are also works of fiction written by celebrities like:

 I heard this was a planned trilogy, but the first book got so much hate  they aren't gonna have the second and third.

Sasha Alsberg recently stated that she thinks the Jenner sisters payed someone to write the book.

















Even though these books recieve hate, they are still popular.

In my opinion, I don't think it's wrong for celebrities to write books, they are humans after all! I just think that publishers should treat new authors and celebrities the same. I just can't bare thinking about a publisher declining a great book, because a celebrity brought in a new book.

*By celebrity, I mean an actress, model, singer, etc.

You're Opinion On Spoilers

            Spoilers is one thing that can make everyone mad. Maybe mad is an understatement, I get FURIOUS!! But what makes a spoiler.

            There are obvious spoilers; we have all experienced it before. Most of us have even done it before! Before you start justifying yourself, I know, accidents happen. Some are intentional spoilers, some are careless spoilers.

             But I don't want to talk about those; I want to talk about areas that we don't all agree are spoilers.


                                   FAMOUS BOOKS

             I feel like I'm the only person on Earth who hasn't read The Hunger Games Trilogy, so I know I have to be REALLY careful online. But when I DO get spoiled I don't know if I should be mad at the person who spoiled me. The person posted something online and didn't know there was someone out there who still hasn't read the trilogy. But again, what if someone is late (like me) or if someone is from a younger generation?

                       PLOT TWISTS
            Sometimes I read reviews where the reviewer goes, MIND BLOWN! Or, BIG TWIST AT THE END! I don't know if I'm the only one but when I hear that about a book, I'm waiting to be BLOWN AWAY, but because I'm waiting for it, I don't get BLOWN AWAY!



                             SHELVING ON GOODREADS
              Now this have never happened to me, but my friend who was about to read a contemporary and checked Goodreads. She looked at Shelving and someone had put the book in her Paranormal shelf. When my friend read the book, she found out that the big TWIST of the story is that the main character is paranormal.

Death, A Sad Thing

      Death. It's a sad thing. I didn't know it could hurt so much.

      I had lost a couple family members. Really distant family members. So I never felt much. But, yesterday our whole school got an email. Robert, a class clown, a great artist, and a boy who would run in all fours, died, on Saturday around 1 AM. 

   

       Even though we were sent an email. I didn't know until I got to school. I opened my car door and two of my friends start screaming,"DO YOU KNOW? DO YOU KNOW?!?!?!" I responded no. And they told me everything.

        Robert died in a car crash. Her mom lost control of the car and flipped the car. Robert probably not wearing his seat belt flew out of the car. Died instantly. 

        My teacher being the way he is talked slowly and calmly. We practically dedicated our day to him. We wrote on the board about him. We wrote letters and drew pictures for his family. And we had no homework. 

         But, I felt a feeling I never felt before. Grief. It starts in your head. Then goes to your stomach.
