Before I start my film talk, I'd just like to say that before watching the movie, I already knew that I was going to do a film talk. I was expecting myself to compare it to the book, create some Pros and Cons chart, things like that. I'm guessing you're expecting that too. So I'd just like to say, nope. I'm not doing that. Why? Because, while watching the movie I decided that the book and the movie, are two different things. Yeah, they both have the same plot. But that's where the similarities end.
Actors:
Brenton Thwaites:
Honestly, in my opinion Thwaites was an excellent choice. There was a scene where he was playing with a baby that made the whole theater laugh and it was great.
Jeff Bridges:
Another great choice. I can't think of any actor that could make it better. Did you know that Bridges bought the rights to the film 15 years ago, and he was preparing himself and waiting until he was the right age to do the movie?
Meryl Streep:
Good choice. I also think that nobody could do better than her, except herself. What do I mean by that? Meryl Streep is one of the best actresses in the world. She's made so many great movies. And quite frankly, I think that her acting in The Giver was awful compared to some others of hers. But, even though she could've done better, I think that no other actresses could do better than her performance.
Odeya Rush:
She's beautiful, really is. But her acting isn't that great. I feel like she was chosen because of her "look". But her acting... not the greatest.
Taylor Swift:
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Taylor Swift. And her acting wasn't bad. I just don't think she had a big enough role. I feel like they put Taylor in there, just to have her name, her audience. Think about it this way, how many people do you know that watched the movie because of Swift?
Cinematography:
At first I thought watching the movie in black & white would be boring, but turns out, it helped us understand Jonas a bit more.
